Research you can check
Search with sources, Deep Research for a long report — and how to tell a real source from a made-up one.
A short, sourced brief on a question from your work, with every claim traced to a page you opened.
Lesson 4 of 12 · Part 2: Make things
Research you can check
An ordinary chat answers from memory. A research tool searches the web first and shows its sources. Gemini’s Deep Research goes further: it reads dozens of pages for you and writes a report with a list of where each point came from. Fast — and still only as good as the sources it found.
The idea
Quick answer with sources
Perplexity, and Gemini or ChatGPT when they show “searching”, answer with numbered links. Click the links. Read the line it quoted. Does the page actually say that?
Deep Research
In Gemini, choose Deep Research and ask a real question. It shows you its plan first — edit it — then takes a few minutes and returns a long report you can open in Docs. How many you can run a day depends on your plan.
Sources have ranks
A government notification, a board circular, a published study and a reputable newspaper outrank a blog, a forum or a video. Ask it to prefer the first kind, and check that it did.
Step by step
- 1
Write a question you really need answered
Specific beats general: not “AI in education” but “what does the CBSE say about AI as a subject for Class 9 from 2026?”
- 2
Get a quick sourced answer
Ask it in Perplexity, or in Gemini with “search the web and cite sources”.
- 3
Open three of the links
For each one, find the sentence that supports the claim. Mark any claim you could not find.
- 4
Now run Deep Research on the same question
Read its plan before you start it. Remove what you do not need, add “prefer official Indian sources”.
- 5
Write your own five-line brief
Only the points you checked, each with its link. This is what you share — not the raw report.
Prompts to copy
Change the parts in [brackets], and the details to fit your own day.
Teacher
Search the web and answer with sources: what changed in the CBSE syllabus for Class 9 Artificial Intelligence (subject code 417) for the 2026–27 session? Prefer cbseacademic.nic.in and official circulars. Quote the exact line for each change.
Parent
Search for scholarships open to Class 11 students in Jammu and Kashmir this year. For each: who runs it, who is eligible, the last date, and the official link. Say clearly if you could not confirm a date.
Anyone
For each claim in your answer, show me the exact sentence from the source that supports it. If a claim has no supporting sentence, remove it.
Try it
Your task
Research one real question, check three sources by opening them, and write a five-line brief with links.
When you are done: You can now use AI research without passing on a mistake you never checked.
Check yourself
Think of your answer first, then open it. Nothing is marked or saved.
The answer has a numbered link, but the page does not say what the answer claims. What happened?Show answer
The assistant summarised wrongly or blended two sources. Drop the claim or find a source that really says it.
Why share your own brief instead of the Deep Research report?Show answer
The report contains claims you have not checked. Your brief contains only the ones you have — that is what makes it trustworthy.
Keep the trust
Open the source before you repeat the claim.
A link next to a sentence looks like proof. It is only proof once you have read the page.
