Class 6 · Unit 0: Getting to know the laptop · Lesson 0.6 · 40 min
Practice, and my own goal
Grandfather's walk to the mosque took 20 minutes after his operation. A month later: 12. He never raced anyone — only yesterday's him.
Today you will: Take your first 1-minute typing test · Record your score — privately · Set a goal for future you
Story
Every morning, Hiba's grandfather walks to the mosque. The first week after his knee operation, it took him 20 minutes. By the end of the month, it took 12.
Grandfather: “I never raced anyone. I only raced yesterday's me.”
Today you will find your starting point. You will race only yesterday's you.

On the laptop
Mission 1: The test (alone, 6 min)
- ☐1
Log in to typing.com, as in Lesson 5.
- ☐2
Predict: what will your accuracy be — more or less than 80%? Write your guess on your card.
- ☐3
Go to Tests → 1-minute test. Fingers home, type calmly.
- ☐4
Write your result on your login card — not on the board:
Date: ___ WPM: ___ Accuracy: ___%
Mission 2: My goal (alone, 8 min)
- ☐5
Open Notepad, make a file called my-goal in your AI-work folder, and finish these:
Today my accuracy is ___%. By the end of Term 1, I want my accuracy to be ___%. To get there, I will practise ______. - ☐6
Save it. Log out of typing.com.
No laptop today?
Your teacher reads a short sentence; you "type" it on the paper keyboard while a partner counts correct keys for 1 minute. Write your goal sentences in your notebook.
Now you know
- WPM tells you how fast. Accuracy tells you how carefully.
- Accuracy first. Aim for 85% or more before you try to go faster.
- Your result is private data. We never compare, rank or share it.
- A goal is a number for future you. Check it each term.
- A little every lab period works better than a lot once.
Debate it
Some websites show a list of the fastest typists in the class. We have switched ours off. Why do you think we did that? How might a list like that make someone feel?
Check yourself — practice, not a test
1. WPM stands for words per ______.
2. Your accuracy is 90%. What does that mean?
- ○ You typed 90 words
- ○ 9 out of every 10 letters were right
- ○ You finished 90% of the lesson
- ○ You were faster than 90% of the class
3. Speed is more important than accuracy when you are learning to type.
- ○ True
- ○ False
4. Who should you compare your typing result with?
- ○ The fastest person in class
- ○ Your best friend
- ○ Your own last result
- ○ Your teacher
Remember
Accuracy first. Race only yesterday's me.
