Class 7 · Unit project
Unit 3 project: The valley case study
A company wants to sell an AI tool to one of the valley's trades. Your group studies the case and tells the trade the truth: what it would gain, what it would cost, and who must stay in charge.
The task
You've seen AI in the health centre, the orchard, the classroom, the highway and the family trades. Today a company is offering an AI tool to one trade in the valley, and your group writes the case study that trade reads before saying yes.
Work in groups of 3–4. One period. Everything in case-<group>.odt.
Your case (from your teacher's pack)
Each group gets one case card — every one invented for teaching, with a bold claim from the seller:
- The orchard: an app that grades apples from a phone photo — "Grades like an expert, 95% of the time!"
- The saffron field: sensors that warn when to irrigate — "Never lose a crop to dry soil again!"
- The houseboat: a chatbot that answers guests' questions at night — "Replaces the night staff!"
- The health centre: an AI that reads eye scans — "Catches problems before the doctor does!"
- The carpet workshop: an AI that designs new patterns — "A hundred designs in a minute!"
Study it (25 min)
- Predict: should the trade say yes, no, or yes-with-conditions? Write it at the top.
- Take it apart: input → model → output. Which technique — classification, regression or clustering? Which domain?
- Gains: two of time, cost, quality, decisions, safety — for this trade.
- Costs: two of jobs, privacy, errors, access — and who carries each one.
- Who decides? Name the person who stays in charge of the final call.
- Test the claim. Write the one question you would ask the seller — like "Tested on which photos?"
- Your advice: yes, no, or yes-if — in two sentences. Did it match your prediction?
Your own line (5 min, alone)
Each person writes one sentence: what part of this trade AI should never replace, and why. Sign with your roll number. This part is marked for you alone.
Share (5 min)
Each group reads its seller's claim, its question, and its advice.
How it is marked
Each row is marked 0–3. Rows 1–5 are shared by the group; row 6 is yours alone. Marks are returned privately and never compared with anyone else's.
Total: 18. Yes, no and yes-if can all score full marks — the reasons are what's marked.
