Class 8 · Unit project
Unit 1 project: One problem, all six stages
Take a real problem from your own list and plan it all the way round the cycle — before anyone trains anything.
The task
All unit, the AI club worked on the waste behind the science block. Now your group takes its own
problem — one from your problems.ods lists — and plans it all the way round the cycle.
You won't train anything today. Good teams plan first, because a mistake on paper costs nothing.
Work in groups of 3–4. One period. Everything on one sheet: six-stages.ods.
Choose a problem (4 min)
Pick one problem from your lists that a model could help with — something a camera, a spreadsheet or a sensor could notice. (Remember Lesson 1.1: if a timer or a rule would do the job, say so — that's a good answer too.)
Not allowed: anything that needs faces or information about named people.
Plan all six stages (26 min)
Fill one box for each stage:
- Define the problem. The 4Ws, and one sentence: When [who] are [where and when], [what happens], which means [why it matters].
- Collect and prepare data. At least four features, with source and consent needed? Then cut every one you don't really need, and write what you cut.
- Train. What are the classes (the labels)? How many examples of each would you want?
- Evaluate. How many examples will you lock away for testing? What would count as good enough — and which mistake would be worse?
- Deploy. Where does it run, who uses it, and what does it do when it's not sure?
- Monitor. What could change in the next six months to make it stale? Who checks, and how often?
Your own line (5 min, alone)
Each person writes: the stage where our project is most likely to fail, and why. Sign with your roll number. This part is marked for you alone.
Share (5 min)
Each group reads out its problem sentence and its answer to stage 5: what does it do when it's not sure?
How it is marked
Each row is marked 0–3. Rows 1–5 are shared by the group; row 6 is yours alone. Marks are returned privately and never compared with anyone else's.
Total: 18. A group that decides its problem doesn't need AI at all, and plans the simpler fix instead, can still score full marks.
